Summer plans for a motorcycle rally for the Southern end of the Smoky Mountains is coming along very well.

This is my progress report…

Dates are, September 11-12-13, 2009

Spearheading from Vonore Tennessee – local Hotel is the Grand Vista Hotel http://www.grandvistahotelandsuites.com/

There are some rooms set aside for our group.

E-mail me for a map of routes;

Planned trips are long and short with a mileage chart to help you navigate the routes.  The trips planned are the world famous “Dragon’s Tail” which is 318 curves in 11 miles, stopping off at Deal’s Gap. Cherohala Skyway. Foothills Parkway.  With points of interest like Robbinsville, NC, Tellico Plaines, TN, Bald River Falls, TN, Pumpkin Center, TN, Madisonville, TN, Plenty of spots along the routes for photos and retail outlets to get keepsakes.  Other routes to consider are Cades Cove, Townsend, Gatlinburg, and to the south a great ride from Tellico Planes on hwy 68 to Copper Basin on the Georgia border.

Camping is available and close to Vonore, TN.  (E-mail)

Any and all bikes are invited to come along with us.  This is not a racing rally.  If you have a high end sport bike and want to tag along with us on these routes that’s fine, but be aware that there has been a lot of deaths happen on these routes because of excessive speed and the COPS are literally every 50 yards along the Dragon’s Tail to hold down the speed of the bikers.  The fines are excessive for this reason.  The biggest problem is Drift across the lines and loss of control.  But with that said the Dragon’s Tail is one of the best routes you will ever take on a Motorcycle.  Speed limit on the Dragon’s Tail is 30mph., leading up to the Dragon the speed limit has just been lowered to 40mph from 55mph.  The Cops are taking this death issue on the Dragon very seriously, for one reason it is not close to anything and it takes along time to get rescue out to you if you should get hurt.  Watch out for Drift.

Last year I had a good time in Mentone so I would like to keep that date open for those who want to attend both or either event for Burgmans.  So I feel that the rally I am planning in the Smoky's will be the weekend before on September 11th -13th in Vonore, Tennessee.

This event will center around good food and great places to see and experience.  The Dragon's Tail, the devil's triangle, Robbinsville NC, Cherohala Sky way, Deal's Gap, Bald River Falls, and plenty of other places to ride in the Smoky Mountains.

I will provide B&B's, Campground info, and route maps to those interested.  Let me know your thoughts.

The End-of Summer Rally started out as a Burgman event several years ago. Of course all rides of any type are welcome and are encouraged to attend. It will be held again this year at Mentone State Park in NE Alabama on September 18 and 19. Three rides are planned for Saturday and are set up for everyone from newbies to seasoned riders.  See End of Summer Rally posts on this forum.

Burgman Rally and Smoky Mountain Ride.

I would like to plan a Burgman Rally for any Burgman owner and friend of Burgmans.  The local hotel I’ve selected is very close to the southern end of the Smoky Mountain National Park (Tennessee and N. Carolina),  there are some of the best routes in the country for bike riding along the ridges and actually through the Smoky Mountains.  Also there is the world famous “Dragon’s Tail” route just 20 minutes from the hotel.  The Dragon’s Tail is an eleven mile section with 318 curves.  One of the most popular locations for motorcyclist to ride.  There are several other routes in the area that are very similar with great views and plenty of things to see on the trip.

I have selected some weekends to pick from, they are August, 28th -30th.  September, 11th – 13th.  October, 9th – 11th.  The Hotel is the Grand Vista Resort in Vonore, Tennessee.  Rates are $79.95 per night with full hot breakfast each morning.  The rates can go down from this with more reservations.  A better price can be possible if enough people are interested.  The routes considered in the mountains will bring 20 degrees cooler temps on the rides so that should be a consideration.  Late August is a hotter time of the year in the valley, September could be the same, October, it could be cold, and that is the start of the fall color tour during that time of the year.

If you are interested in a rally in this part of the country with lots of great rides planned and great views of the mountains and neat places to see.  Please e-mail me with your choice of dates.  grantcad@bellsouth.net  phone is 423-442-3731
