I live in Redlands and am willing to join up any future rides. Mentone is REALLY close, and in the spring, it is my route to the mountains. Let me know any and all future rides. I am pretty nice, but kind of kinky but practical (necessary for age 55). 9516012960.

Hello All,
We got back late today after having a tire blow out on the cargo trailer/toy-hauler. Anyways, I figure we had around 26 "bikes" total show up for this year's rally. Of that 26, 3 went on the long ride (approx. 174 miles) in a lot of rain, and I hear that a few went on the short ride (also in rain), and as Deb has already mentioned, she had a good turnout for Friday's ride (no rain). For Saturday night, we had 10 people show up for dinner at Ryans (one car, seven? bikes). I guess it was a blessing that Ft. Payne had a festival, of sorts, going on Saturday to give people something to do. Holly and I had a good time on the ride and at the the Golden Rule and Ryans restaurants. (We preferred the Golden Rule because of choice in price and food).
For next year, I am planning on doing something different, so stay tuned. I have to run it by the club first. We are open for suggestions, so please do not hesitate to comment. If you prefer, send the comment to dchaad@mchsi.com.
Thanks to Duane and Vicky for the T-shirts, to Dale and Kim for leading the short ride and to Deb for Friday's ride. And a special thanks to all those brave souls who made it to this year's rally despite the weather. Let us hope for better weather next year.
Ride safe, Del and Holly

Looks like some rain will fall this year. Let us all be safe and ride a little slower and a lot more alert. Holly and I will be there by noon Friday in the campground. We will set up camp and then head over to the lodge. We have the T-shirts and they look great. BIG thanks to Duane and Vicky for getting them done.
On a bad note, one of our leaders had an accident last week and his scooter is gone. He was banged up and scratched up, but no broken bones!! So, we are not sure yet who will lead the short ride. We'll decide that on Friday.
Ride safe, Del

Hello Everyone!! The End-of-Summer Rally is next week! We are hoping for good weather for Friday and Saturday and Sunday. The dinner/Meet-n-Greet will be Friday evening at the Golden Rule restaurant at the highway-35/Interstate-59 intersection. We will meet at 6:30. The decision was made not to meet at the lodge due to high prices, poor food quality and small menu selection. We know the Golden Rule is not as convenient, but the choices were few.
Hope is well with everyone, see you Friday, 6:30 at the Golden Rule (or sooner/later). Ride safe, North Alabama Scooters

The rally is only 17 days away. We are no longer taking t-shirt orders. Hope to see everyone there and that we have nice weather for the rides on Friday and Saturday. It looks like we might be meeting Friday night for a meet and greet dinner. I will post where soon. Del

Hello again everyone, Please see the post with the link for the flyer for this year's rally. The numbers are slowly rising. We can get XXL and XXXL shirts for $2 more each, just write it in on your order. Holly and I will be camping again this year with our new toy-hauler/cargo trailer/rv conversion.
So far we have approximately 20 two-wheeled vehicles coming. We would like to see more. Please let me know for sure if you are coming by sending an email to dchaad@mchsi.com or sending us the filled in flyer to our address on the flyer.
Ride safe, Del

Looks like you'll need some XXL shirts as well. A number of bigger than L riders last year.
If someone was looking for a room at the Desoto Park motel, I just canceled my reservation and freed up a room.

I have posted an information sheet about this rally. It would not allow me to post the PDF or Word files, so I did a copy and paste.

Hello everyone,
I see someone else already beat me to posting the notice about this year's End-of-Summer ride. I just joined this forum and will remember to keep you all updated about the ride.
The rides will all start at Desoto State Park. However, we will not be meeting for dinner at the park on Friday or Saturday. This decision was made due to the number of comments we heard last year about the cost of the buffet at the park's lodge.
We also stayed last year at the Roadway Inn, which was a brand new facility last year. We had no problems with it at all (except figuring out how to turn the shower on). However, Holly and I tent camp, RV camp, fall asleep on our sofas and on our porch, so maybe we are just easy to please. (Not that any of you are hard to please, but hey, we are all not created equal)
Hope to see a lot of you at the ride in September
Ride Safe, Del O'Neal

I just made my reservation for Mentone, 2009. Last year I stayed in a cabin at the De Soto State Park Lodge and enjoyed the experience. This year I am staying in a room at the lodge motel so I am closer to the wifi connection.
If you are interested in more information about the state park lodge and accommodations, visit http://www.desotostatepark.com/
The lodge is the place where rides started last year and this year and staying there makes it super convenient to roll out of bed and ride.
If anyone is interested in making a reservation there the number to call is 1-800-568-8840. You can't make a reservation online.

Here's what Del posted on the Burgman USA site:
<Hello everyone,
Time to mark your calendars for this year's End-Of-Summer Ride at Mentone, Alabama, on the weekend of September 18/19. There are changes with this year's ride. Deb "Scout" has passed on the reigns to the North Alabama Scooter club, NAS, but don't fear, she will still be a part of this years activities. Tentative plans have been hammered out which call for three ride options on Saturday the 19th. 1. Short/Slower/straight ride, 2. Short/twisty ride, and 3. Longer/combination ride. The longer ride will start off following the same route as in the past, but will be different after leaving Sewanee, TN. All rides will start at Desoto State Park. More details to come.
We will have a dinner meet-and-greet Friday night and also a dinner after the rides on Saturday, but this year, the after ride dinner will be some place in Ft. Payne, AL. The only cost for this year's ride will be for T-shirts.
We will have registration/T-shirt forms within the next two months. We sure hope that you will join us for the 4th Annual End-Of-Summer Ride.>
Note from Duane and Vickie:
We stayed at the Rodeway last year. I remember that there was something about the place that we didn't care much for, but it wasn't bad enough for us to remember what it was. We think it may have been a noisy airconditioner in our room. In a pinch, I suppose we would stay there again.

Folks that I met last year were very unhappy with the Rodeway. They said it was noisy and in fact left early to get out of it. Who knows, maybe they really improved it this year.
Those people that stayed at the state park motel were happy. It wasn't uberfabulous but it was the rally point for everyone and in a nice environment.
Also, the B&B in town got high praise from people staying there.
I understand there is a campground nearby but I hear is was OK, a campground.
Hope that helps.
I did get an email from the B&B in Mentone. Here is what they said.
I am one of the two innkeeprs at The Mentone Inn, Mentone, Alabama. We would like to offer your group our B&B for your 2009 Ride in Mentone. We have 12 rooms, all with private baths. We have an outdoor pavilion as well. Group rates are offered. http://www.mentoneinn.com

Hey, Guys,
Which motel close to Mentone is the one where everyone stays for the Mentone Rally? Is it the Rodeway? If not which one?
It seems to me that even if theres only a small chance of going, it would pay to go ahead and make reservations.
I just hate sleepin' on my Burgie!!!! It ruins my whole day.

Steve,
Del and Holly, along with other Huntsville, AL area riders are already putting the 2009 Mentone Rally plans together. The intent is to hold it again this year at Mentone on the weekend of September 17-18. We are currently looking at having three rides instead of two on Saturday. More information should be available soon.
