Sounds good, Steve. Sorry if it seemed as though I was suggesting you shoulder te whole burden – for sure, we should all play a part, though we don't all have the final executive power.

I spelled this out in the forum terms for people when they register.
But to police this I really need for everyone to be vigilant and let me know if they spot any future posts that are not appropriate.
My plan of action is that if it is an unintentional foot over the line I will give the person a friendly and private warning. If it is just aggressive in your face politics, hatred, bigotry, etc. I will immediately ban that person. As I say in the forum terms now, "It's a forum, not a democracy."
I think we all know the kind of stuff we are trying to prevent from happening here. We've never had a post to date that even came close to needing any notice or warning. Everyone here is wonderful and fantastic and I am truly proud to call you my friends.
The last thing I want to do is spend riding time having to police this forum.
I don't care if you are gay, straight, rich, poor, american, european, christian, muslim, black, white, male, female, or anything else. My belief is that a Burgman rider is my brother or sister. I think we ll agree that we want to preserve this site for people of all walks of life to come together and share our love for our beloved Burgman scooter/motorcycle. The only group of people I want to block are those that want to divide, polarize or hate.
Ride on.

Steve, could I suggest (if it's not the case already) a safeguard in 2 parts:
1) A declaration upfront in the site's "mission statement" that these topics are off limits, in the spirit that we're all agreed with.
2) Action to remove any item when (by your judgment) a thread becomes clearly offensive.
This is a fun, constructive, supportive group – let's keep that good atmosphere.

I couldn't agree more w/ you Steve and the other comments made. I am a fairly new rider of a 2008 Burgman 650 and I joined the forum to learn all I can about my great Burgie. The information is outstanding. If I want political or religious commentary, there are plenty of websites out there for that type stuff. Let's keep this website for all of us fortunate owners of Burgman's to share ideas, info, and experiences. Ride on!! Frank 64

Wholehearted support Steve – I've been reliishing the difference here. My only concern is that raising the issue may invite discussion and a slide into the very situation thaat you're trying to avoid. Other, past matters are also best not spoken of. Let's be glad of the good atmosphere here and move on, with your good principles taken to heart.

Well said Steve.
And in my opinion – very timely indeed.
Eventhough I didn't see it coming , it's certainly no harm to lay down a marker about what's allowed and what's not.
We currently seem to have an excellent spread of list members who contribute knowledgeable and interesting posts……and long may that continue.
On a personal experience ; I was a member of another excellent motorcycle forum for 7 years until very recently, when the posts got more and more political and religion based, to the extent that the whole thing got totally out of hand and ended up with really personal and nasty emails between listers.
Because of what I was reading, I eventually unsubscribed from that forum and the listowner subsequently to me that he had lost 90% of the membership.
His one regret was that he didn't clamp down soon enough because he thought he might offend a few people……big mistake….
Bottom line : that forum is now 'dead' and I assume the perpetrators have merrily gone off to pedal their wares on some other unsuspecting bike forum.
What had been a really successful forum, where a knowledge base and friendship built up over many years had turned into a total disaster because a minority insisted on trying to force their views and opinions on others.
So may i thank you once more for your post, and hopefully, it will consign any off topic subjects of this nature to the bin.
I'm here to talk about Burgies…so let's talk Burgies folks.!!
Apologies for sounding to depressing but I was really p***sed at losing good internet buddies.
Getting off my soap box,
Ride Safe,
Pat McSweeney

As the founder of the Burgman Riders site I rarely, exert any ownership privilege. And whenever you write a sentence like that you know there is a "but", to follow it.
Here it is. But I've been getting an increasing number of comments from people that use this site and forums, quietly complaining or expressing concern that another big Burgman forum on the web is becoming very political and aggressive in places.
That is one thing I will not tolerate on BurgmanRiders.com. I built this site for us to share our love, advice, tips, and friendship around the Burgman motorcycle, not politics or religion.
I don't care if you have a liberal or conservative point of view in your life, but when you come here, please leave that at home.
This has never really been a problem here but if it does become an issue and I do block someone from the site, please understand that it was only to allow this to remain a safe and friendly place for Burgman riders, from all nations, to have a safe place to meet.
Ride on.
Steve
