Hello everyone, as a newby to the forum, but close to fifty years of riding experience starting back with the Honda street/trail series, 70, 90, 125 etc.including 1974 Suzuki GT 380, the old "waterbuffalo" 1976 GT750, to early 80's 750 Virago, last year designation "Route 66", 1981 GS1100 Gold Wing. Last year I broke down and decided to try one more time to recapture the fun that had been missing and bought a 2007 Burgman AN400K. I was very surprised by the power, comfort, and just plain fun of this new "toy". Yea, lots of other perks as well, but the fun is why we ride. I thought this was the perfect platform for all around stress relief, errands and short trips. I still believe that, if you ride solo. Then shortly after I lost the love of my life, in January, I wandered through a Cycle Shop, feeling sorry for myself, I ran accross a 2006 Burgman 650 with 800 miles on it, yes, in the showroom with all the other "new" models. Thought I'd take it for a ride, just to compare of course. For an experienced rider, it blew me away. As the fun factor multiplied by 10, along with the power, and highway stability, all of this just to say, call it a scooter, motorcycle, bike, doesn't matter, until you ride one, you just can't really understand, may not be for everyone, but it works for me.

There is a Burgman Rally tho other bikes are included as well. It's the Midatlantic Scooter Rally and it takes place in New Holland PA from the 21st to the 23rd of May. I hope to see you there. It's repeated again in September, but I don't yet know that dates.

They are having a scooter thing in Eureka Springs, AR this fall. I think it is posted some place on this site.
I would like to have some local folks that could ride around in the general area. I know wishes and wishes. I'm not much on organizing folks.
Hey Sandy,
Don't they have a Holy Land Museum out there in Eureka Springs, AK? I think that I have been to it in the last 5 or so years…

It would be fun to have a Burgman Rally somewhere – I know when I drove (not rode) down to Branson, MO there was this restaurant on the waj by the name of Lambert's – home of the throwed rolls, there seem to be a BUNCH of traditional bikers there… maybe if about 650 Burgmen riders showed up there at the same time…

I'm working on a picture. The ones we have so far are not very good. I'll get one posted soon with helmet. I'm getting my hair died next month with streaks the same color as my helmet.
I really wish we had a group of Burgman riders around where I live. It would be lots of fun to ride together in a group. So I will just continue to ride with my husband. He rides a Vulcan 900.

Hey Sandy,
Thanks for all the posts!!!
I definitely agree that your scooter needs at least one name – since my Burgie is "technically" a superheroine (after all, she is "the Bat Burgie"), she also has a regular name (a name for her alter ego) … her name is Kate (from "K8" not "John & Kate plus 8", get it? ) and she is bona fide "Super Bad to the Bone"!!! I agree with you that people try to say "Scooter" and use it as a derogatory moniker, however, I wear it like a badge of honor – even my wife grills me on this, but you know what? I am having the time of my life!!! I just look at her and tell her that she has "scooter envy"! I even wrote a nice long poem that I may share with you in a PM that made my wife so jealous that it wasn't even funny… I thought it was cute though… So go ahead and name your scooter and I definitely want to see a pic of you on your scooter with a big giant smile and your scooter ready, willing, and able to boogie down!!!

I really like to say the word "Scooter"! Motorcycle just doesn't slide off the tongue as well. Who can say Scooter and not smile?
I love to say I ride a "Scooter"! I also call it my burgie bike. And soon it will have an official name like "Greased Lighting".
I still like to say "Scooter"!!
Scooter riders are to cool to ride motorcycles!

Actually, you are all quite legally correct. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in its regulations, specifically Reg. 571.123 defines a scooter as: "Scooter means a motorcycle that: (1) Has a platform for the operator’s feet or has integrated footrests, and (2) Has a step-through architecture, meaning that the part of the vehicle forward of the operator’s seat and between the legs of an operator seated in the riding position, is lower in height than the operator’s seat." (Emphasis added).
So now you can tell any derisive biker types in a loud and haughty tone that they are not only ignorant of the performance, technology, comfort, and convenience of a Burgman – but they are also ignorant of the law! In making this pronouncement – you might want to judge your intended audience and venue carefully to avoid unpleasantness.
But once again, as I a suggested in another post – worrying about what others think should not detract from the enjoyment of these excellent machines.

Call it what THEY want! It is a fast kick butt motorcycle!
Have you ever spent 8-10,000 dollars on a scooter, or even a 650 motorcycle?

I just needed a little break this afternoon and so I went for a spirited ride on the 650. Twisty corners, open roads with a throttle that needed twisting, were waiting for me on this sunny day.
As I was off having a blast on the bike and it occurred to me in some heavy sweeper leans, that newbies purchasing a Burgman 650, thinking that was a simple scooter, would be grossly misinformed.
This bike is more that a milk getting scooter, it is a full fledged sports bike that can carry four bags of groceries.
Nobody should ever ride this piece of road lightning without first taking an MSF class and putting some miles under their butt first.
After all that, I've just got to tell you, I love my 650!
