The FI (fuel injection) light may go on if you run the engine past 5,000 RPMs with the speedometer sensor cable disconnected.

The F1 light is actually the FI light. Stands for fuel injection (system)
I had a crazy problem last year with the light coming on after stoping and and restarting, especially after long rides. If I continued with the light on the bike would bog down and not accelerate. To get it to go out I would cut the engine off, wait for the fuel pump to pressure up and after 2 or 3 trys it would go out. I went to another forum and was told to jump the terminals on the code reader connector and read the code on the dash. I did this and it read no errors with the engine off or running. After I did this the light has not come on since. Dosn't make sense but that's the way it is.
Loose battery terminals would definitely cause the the problem and would drive the ECM wacko.

Snow use you sighing…..Rob….
You think YOU'VE got problems.
My K9 has one screw, at the bottom, BUT, there's two "tabs" at the top. I unscrewed it, but couldn't see how to "untab" it.
I wheeled it out of my garage, into the day-light, but I still couldn't see. I fetched a torch, and it looks like you have to hold the two tabs down, or up, and then pull the cover off.
The problem is, it takes two hands to pull the tabs down, or push up, and I didn't have a third hand, to pull the cover off. ???
I need a friendly octopus……
I got all my "special" tools out, and I spent at least, 15 minutes, trying to get the blasted thing off. BUT I just couldn't. The air went blue !!!!
So, I just gave up all hope. If the battery goes flat on me, again,
I'll just have to buy another scooter. …..sigh.
Has anybody else had the same problem, with a K9. ?
PS. I still have to type in my user name and password, every time.??

Now where have they hidden that pesky battery??
(10.50. am. GMT)
That was my problem. I didn't know where the battery was. I was on a trip with a friend (he had his motorcycle) and the meters went all over the place and the F1 light came on and everything went dead. I waiting a minute and then it started. So, I decided to just get this thing home and hope I made it…which I did. and then came to this site and found the battery location is on the left side glove box under 2 screws. was I happy to find the loose terminals. No problem since. in fact not much has happened since winter set in. today …snow…sigh.

Thanks for that, Rob.
Henry also suggested it, a few days ago, BUT I still haven't got around to checking it, yet.
Although, it hasn't happened to me since, so perhaps it WAS just the battery, low on charge. And now I'm riding it more regularly, It's charged itself back up again.
I'll check the terminals, today, for sure.

Ahh yes the ol' F1 meters going all over the place and it sometimes won't start routine. That was exactly what happened to me. and it turned out to be……the battery connections were loose. I tightened them up and the problem has not come back.

these computerised engines are very sensitive to voltage drop.
Is it possible that you have a loosened battery terminal or poor earthing (ground) strap? Or even a battery that needs replacement?
Good thinking …….I thought it might be aliens.
Ta ! very much. I'll get out there, tomorrow, and check it out. As I did have a job starting it up, a while back, after a week-long lay-up.
But no trouble starting, since then. The scoot isn't five months old, yet.
I hope I haven't bought a lemon.

Probably no connection at all but a recent experience with my car brought up some interesting thoughts.
I drive a 10 year old SEAT Toledo V5 with all the knobs and whistles. I have been annoyed by little faults such as the outside air temperature readout randomly hunting between +60*C (!!) and -15*C, the digital clock occasionally resetting itself overnight to 00:00, and the radio coding going to safety and requiring the security code to be punched in yet again!
Then, over Christmas, the car got no use for two weeks and sat in the snow feezing its little wheels off! Come the end of the holidays and guess what? a flat battery. Try a recharge – zilch! New battery bought and installed and NO MORE ELECTRICAL GREMLINS! Lessons learned: these computerised engines are very sensitive to voltage drop.
Is it possible that you have a loosened battery terminal or poor earthing (ground) strap? Or even a battery that needs replacement?

While I was out riding, yesterday, that " F1 " light came on, and went straight back off again. At the same time, all the dials Zero'ed, then flicked over to the other side, zero'ed again, and then back to where they were, to start with. All in a split second.
Has anybody else, experienced this ?
I spoke to Suzuki customer services about it, today, who said to take it to a main dealer as soon as I can, for a diagnostic check. Something electronic is malfunctioning.
