Don't get me wrong, the 400 is a very good scooter, and I'm VERY pleased with it.

I definitely made the right choice, over the 650.

I read someone's post, on here, that said the clutch problem was incurred when Suzuki up-graded the 400, back in the 2007 model.

Actually, they more than up-graded it, It's a whole different machine, altogether.

There's a part in the clutch, that apparently had three legs on it, and with the up-grade, it now has five legs. Which seems to trap more dedris. And thats where the problem is. The cure, is to replace the five legged one, with the three legged one….I think.

Suzuki has put out a service bulletin to dealers, to rectify the situation.

The "F1″ light problem, is different, altogether.

Sorry to hear that, Burgermiser. You have seemed so pleased with your purchase up to now. There seem to be a horrendous number of these snags occurring in late model 400s – I cannot believe that Suzuki are being allowed to get away with this, it could wreck their complete reputation, may be that should read "SHOULD wreck…"? :(

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots – but there aren't many old bold pilots!

This shuddering, and screeching, on accelleration, is ALSO occurring on my "K9" 400. Yell

I phoned Suzuki, today, who said I would have to take it up with a main dealer, who will inspect it, first, and decide what is to be done, under warrantee.

They put me through to my preffered dealer, who was busy, at the time, but would ring me straight back.

But they didn't bother…..Surprised

A short time ago I discovered that it shudders when I take off, usually up to 15-20 mph and then it goes smooth again.

This is an accumulation of dust and road much on the primary clutch drum.

I have a 07 an400, and with only 1900 miles on it, a shudder started to develope at about 2600 rpm. It contenues up through 36-3800, and then goes away. It makes no difference if it warms up or not. This will happen all day long.

After a ride, there is a smell of hot rubber, just like the smell I had with a 150cc chinese scooter. That scooter broke down with a bad variator, and the belt split.

There is now 2500 miles on the 400, same belt, same smell, same vibration, and I do ride with an extra belt in the trunk, and my extended warrenty with it. I think it just a matter of time before it hits the fan. LocaL dealer says they have no idea what is going on. Belt replacement is not covered by warrenty, but bad variator is.

Hope this will be of some help.Laugh

I had some shudder on my AN400K8 that was diminished by going to Dr. Pulley 18 gram sliding variator weights. They are a slightly lighter (about 1 gram each) than the stock roller weights and  give me better acceleration. You could also go to lighter roller weights for your stock variator. My sliders cost about $52 US, a lot more economical than buying an aftermarket variator. In some circumstances it costs me a little in fuel economy. A good time to change the weights is at the same time you are having the belt replaced.

The only times that I've experienced squeal is when starting out cold.

Hello, I have a 400cc K8 and at just under 2000miles on the clock it's started to shudder at speeds under 30MPH. Took it to the dealer who said it was an accumulation of dirt in the variator. They said it hasd been road tested and cleaned out, road tested again and was OK.

But it's not OK. It struggles to get up to 20 mph then it jumps into life, with a jolt that could throw you off if you weren't expecting it.

If I have to run for a long time at low speeds, it starts making a high pitched squealing noise. Doesn't sound right to me?

Any ideas? Bike is only 5 months old. Never been ridden faster than 75mph, but used at least 5 days a week on short journeys.

I also have a 2008/ Burgman 400.  Have the same problem.  Took it to the dealer and was told that it was dust in the transmission and was something inherent with the unit.  Why the dust only effects it at 15 mp is beyone me.

Well I think THAT'S a bunch of hooey!!

I've tried warming it up more before I take off and it really does help.

I have the same problem on mine when it's cold.  If I start the Burgman and let it idle for 5 minutes or so before I ride, I don't have the problem.  If I start and go on a cold engine, I have the problem.

I'll try that….thanks!!!
