Well it took longer than I had hoped for the BurgmanRiders.com vinyl coated reflective stickers to arrive. But they arrived.

The sticker was designed just for the space on the back of the scooter so that it fits perfectly above the space in the plastic as you can see below.

BurgmanRiders.com Vinyl Safety Sticker

The sticker is based on our old logo but it is still a fun and frolicking image to have on the back of your Suzuki Burgman scooter.

Supplies are very limited. Order soon.

What makes this sticker extra special is that it was designed for safety. The color sticker is printed on high grade coated vinyl to protect the colors but also material that is reflective. So if you are on the road at night, it will reflect light to give people behind you more notice that you are ahead.

You can see how brightly it reflects.

BurgmanRiders.com Safety Sticker Reflects

Free Shipping!

I’ve priced the sticker at cost to cover the sticker and postage. While the cost of each sticker was much higher than a cheap paper based sticker, these are color printed clear coated vinyl reflective safety stickers, a high quality sticker for a high quality scooter.

If you really want to stand out at night, get a second sticker to put on the back of your helmet or on the front of your scooter.

And if you know someone else that rides a Burgman, get a second sticker for them.

By the way, the sticker is designed to look really good on white, silver, blue, black and red scooters.

Being a huge fan of the show Mythbusters I thought I’d take some time today and explore two Burgman riding tips to see if they were confirmed, plausible or busted.

The two tips up today were the Lemon Pledge and foam earplugs.

Myth: Lemon Pledge Cleans Windscreens Amazingly Well

For those that invested in aftermarket windscreens for the Burgman, a Givi or Clearview windshield can be a sizable investment. The last thing you want to do is scratch it all up when cleaning it. All sorts of plexiglass products are suggested, like Plexus for example. Plexus costs about $14 for a can.

In another post I talked about the suggestion that Lemon Pledge does an awesome job of cleaning dirty windscreens. So to test the myth I had to wait till my windshield was super nasty with dried bug guts, road grime and just plain dirt.

Using a cloth diaper I applied a shot of Lemon Pledge to the filthy windscreen and applied soft pressure. With just a couples of rubs, the screen was crystal clear. Even the dried on bug guts came off without a problem. Some of the tougher spots required a second application but that was it.

I used to use Plexus on my aircraft on other bike but no more. I’m saving a load at only about $3.30 a can for Lemon Pledge and from now on, that’s all I’m using to clean my Burgman Clearview windshield.

Myth: Wearing Earplugs Makes It Harder to Ride

I’ve read so much about wearing foam earplugs that I thought I’d give it a try. I bought a box of regular foam ear plugs at my local grocery store. They were labeled as snore plugs. Nothing special just the type you roll up and stick in your ear.

I wanted to try how different it was to ride with earplugs. Even with my full face helmet I still get wind noise and it is bugging me a bit. One concern about the earplugs is that they block out too much sound and you can’t hear what is happening around you.

The box of earplugs said that they would cut sound by 29 decibels and it made a huge difference. Wearing the ear plugs took off the high end wind noise, that sharp fluttering sound, but left me perfectly able to hear what was going on around me.

The earplugs made a fun ride even more pleasant. I think from now on it is going to be earplugs every time I ride.

Here are two tips that I find very helpful when riding. If you have any favorite ones, post them in the comments section below.

Secret Tip 1 - How to Easily Stay Upright When Going Slow or Stopped

Here is a tip that I learned from my old BMW K1200LT riding days. I was told then that since the BMW had a horizontally opposed engine that by giving it a little RPMs as you braked it would provide a gyro-stabilizing effect and help keep the bike a bit more stable. It worked.

Now, I’m not sure of all the fundamental physics reasons why this works on the Burgman, but it does. Here is how to use this trick.

As you come to a slow stop or you are creeping along slowly and you don’t want to put your feet down, just apply a little brake and a little gas at the same time. Keep the slight increase in RPMs up and you will feel less wobbly and much more stable. The only risk here is that if you let go of the brake while giving it a bit of gas, you’ll accelerate forward.

I most commonly use this trick when the light has turned but traffic is not moving yet and I’m just at the point where I feel like I have to put my feet down. This trick buys me another few seconds and often that is enough time for traffic to start moving.

Secret Tip 2 - How to Get A Very Early Warning of a Wandering Car or Truck That is Headed Your Way

On the road I’m never worried about my riding, but the other guys driving, be it a car or truck. Here is a sure fired trick that will give you the earliest possible warning if a vehicle you are riding next to is moving your way.

If you focus on the distance between the tire and the dotted line in the center of the road you can easily spot if that distance is getting larger or smaller. The area I’m talking about is marked in this illustration in red.

If you are passing a car on your right side, just watch the distance between their front left tire and the dotted line.

If the distance becomes narrower, the car is moving towards you and you can take evasive action. Typically slowing down to let the car in is the safest option.

Now this trick works especially well in slow moving traffic when a car or truck might change lanes but not use their signal. Of course you always need to be looking everywhere at the same time but this trick has saved me from a couple of events that would have been “less than optimal”, if you know what I mean.
