Our Burgman friend and site visitor Samuel Gervase contacted me recently and wanted to share this review of a radio he added to his motorcycle.
I have an ‘08 Burgman 400. I looked all over for a radio that would mount easily on the scooter without having to cut into it. After much searching on the internet, I found the ideal radio. It is the Shark Motorcycle/Yacht radio complete with 100w waterproof speakers. All this for $87.99! I couldn’t believe it.
I decided to order the radio, at the worst case I could return it in 30 days if I was not satisfied. This, however, was not the case. The speakers, I ordered them in black, mounted easily to the mirror bracket with the hardware provided. The radio was mounted above the Burgman logo on the handlebars. This unit also comes with a remote control that I have not mounted as yet. You can also plug in your MP3 and run it through the speakers. After wiring it up to the battery, the ultimate test was to check out the sound. All I could say was ,“WOW“! The 100w stereo speakers really crank out the tunes!! Even when riding, with the wind noise, the speakers were powerful enough to be heard.
If any readers are interested in purchasing this radio, I urge you to check it out at: www.gooddeals18.com. Item #: SHKCYCLERADIOKIT Manufacturer: shark Mfg. ID: shkcycleradiokit

Looks like a smooth install. I just wonder how you would mount the speakers on a 650 since the mirrors are low down under the handlebars.
It could be a tricky if not complicated install.
Samuel, could you take a picture of your speakers looking from the front of your scooter. I am interested to see how they are mounted.
Also, how about the back of the radio.
What I,m looking for with the speaker install, is to see if they will work on a 650 or not. thanks
Terry
Terry, the speakers come with a Z type bracket, which is ideal for the mirror mount . They could be mounted to the plastic covering of the handlebars, without the mount. The radio is mounted with 2-way tape. The road vibration has not loosened it. I can’t get a decent shot of the back of the radio because of the GIVI windshield. Anything else?
Sam
Thanks Samuel, One more thing, I heard the sound of the speakers from a video on the shark site, however, I was wondering how good the radio reception is.
If I just want to use my mp3, I would just plug in the ear buds. I would like to listen to the radio as well.
if you want, you can reply to burgman4fun@yahoo.com which is my scooter account.
Thanks.

The reception is good if the station is close. I added an extra length of wire and it improved a lot. Someone told me that the Fashion scooter has an antenna on their radio that is in the glove box. This might improve the reception greatly. I will let you know about it. However, MP 3 sound is great!!
Hi,
I just discovered I could install a radio on my 97 HD Springer Softail…Woooohooooo. I especially wanted this, after my man got a new HD with a faring and killer radio which made me so JEALOUS–LOL–So, I just want to make sure this will not look funky on my gorgeous, classic bike and that it is easily installed and what can I do better to get great reception. I don’t have Ipods or anything like that, so it will just be local FM tuned into the towns I am riding thru.
Is this the best model for what I am looking for??
All your advice in so greatly appreciated!!
Ride safe and blessings to you and yours.
Sincerely,
SinCityCin
I have a similar set up on my 650. I have since added a ram mount to hold my Sansa fuze mp3 player which has a built in fm receiver. my amp is only an amp but it works pretty good.

Dear Sin,
Sorry I took so long to reply. Here’s what I did to improve the reception immensely……….. I took a roll of wire and tied the end of the FM radio antenna to it and placed it in my glovebox. Works like a charm! And its cheap!
I had my shark radio wired to the battery but moved it to the accessory fuse to prevent draining the battery. Now every time I start up the bike and turn on the radio it defaults to 87.5. Anyone know how to change the startup preset to a different frequency?
You cannot chage the startup preset, the reason why it is defaulting to 87.5, is because every time you turn the key off it is removing power from the unit essentially resetting it, and the reason it goes to 87.5 is because that is the beginning of the commercial radio band. You need to have it hooked to a constant power source to keep your memory in the unit.
Hi,
I bought this outstanding radio and speaker set up and Love, LOVE, LOVE it!
It cost me a bit of cash to install on my Springer Heritage Softail but soooo worth it.
It was actually custom installed with fabricated brackets for both receiver and speakers, did not affect the cool, retro beauty of my motorcycle.
With that being written, here is my question:
How do I use the remote to scroll up and down for my radio stations as I cruise thru different cities or towns?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Sinde
i found these brake resaviour covers, that you remove the orginal suz covers they have extensions with threaded holes that match most garmin bolts . and you can get them with two hole on each one , or just one hole, there great for just about anything you want to mount, i only have a garmin zumo, and dont have a radio, as there is not much room to fasten anything with all the tupperware cover on the 650 , i think, it was motorcyclelarry.com ,look around and if you cant find ,i will look for the box and post it later dean
hello again, i looked up that site for the resavior cover,s it is motorcyclelarry.com click under suzuki and then under bergman 650 and you should see the brake cover , they fit perfect and dont leak, ive had them on for several years , with no problems they have one or two holes and you can get them in two colors and they have the rubber coated balls also , so they stay put. i have a garman zumo its nice . works well, when you buy the zumo you get two mounts, one for your car and one for your bike, also its waterproof, so you can move it between your car and your bike dean
We think plastic bag can be a past for all the US cities soon. We would Obama administration will stop all the grocery stores or any stores to use plastic bags. Please send an email to your local representatives and tell them that we don’t want to use any plastic bags. Eco or green bags is the way to go in the future. This for our current and future generation benefits.

Hi David,
I installed a shark radio in my 2007 Executive. It is not the one pictured above
on the 400.
My shark radio fits inside my left glove box and has an SD Card reader and a
USB Port built in. It does have 100 watts of power, and I do use the Marine grade speakers that you see on the 400. These really are good speakers.
Reply to burgman4fun@yahoo and I’l send you some pics of the install.
The radio also has a wireless remote.
